Undergraduate Program

The Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at 91AV prepares students for a variety of exciting career options. In addition to students wanting to pursue careers or graduate school training in one of the many biological science disciplines, a Biology degree can also fulfill requirements for admission to medical, dental, veterinary, optometry, or pharmacy schools.

Students interested in a pre-professional curriculum will be assigned a highly knowledgeable pre-professional advisor to ensure that they take courses that will best suit their future plans. For more information on pre-professional advising click .

In addition to the general Biology degree, students may also pursue concentrations in the following areas: Chemical Biology, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, and Molecular Biology & Biotechnology.

Students may also choose to minor in Biology, a program that requires 23 hours of biology coursework, or pursue a major or minor in Biology Education.

听General Requirements for a Bachelor of Science in Biology

• All Biology majors are required to take one year of introductory Biology with labs (BIOL 1020-1023), a junior-level genetics course (BIOL 3005) and a senior seminar (BIOL 4099). Students choosing a concentration will have additional required courses.
• All Biology majors have to take at least 14 hours from courses in four subject areas (cell & molecular biology, organismal biology, ecology & environmental science, and evolution & systematics).
• A total of 45 credit hours in Biology courses are required for the Bachelor of Science in Biology Degree, and students must earn a C or higher in all Biology courses counting towards their degree plan.
• A minimum of 16 of the Biology credit hours must be 3000- or 4000-level courses
• No more than 7 hours of the following can be applied to the program of study: cooperative internships (BIOL 4096), undergraduate research credit (BIOL 4097/4098) and problems courses (BIOL 4103-4109)
