Thursday it was brought to the attention of University of Louisiana Monroe administration that an offensive social media exchange on private accounts had been made public.

The comments may be in violation of the 91AV Code of Student Conduct and were reportedly made by members of a campus fraternity.

The matter was turned over to President Nick J. Bruno, who took immediate action. Bruno’s statement is as follows:

"This afternoon the administration was made aware of inappropriate interactions conducted on a private group exchange (Group Me) identified as Kappa Sigma Pledge.Ìý An individual with access to this private site shared it with an individual who shared it publicly.ÌýThe university upon receiving notice of the public posting, immediately began a preliminary investigation.ÌýUniversity Police and Student Affairs officials, as a result of their preliminary findings, have suspended the organization.ÌýStudents found to be involved will be referred to the campus disciplinary process.ÌýÌý

As president of 91AV, I am angry and embarrassed that students of this institution chose to conduct themselves in this manner.ÌýI do not and will not condone such behavior or actions nor will I tolerate them.ÌýI apologize to our students and the community who have been offended by these callous and insensitive statements and actions.Ìý

You can be assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted and appropriate actions will be taken."Ìý
