2016 Panelist: Dr. Ruth Smith

Dr.听Ruth Smith听is a Professor of Modern Languages and Director, School of Humanities; and Program
Coordinator of World Languages听at 91AV.听
Smith has been a member of the 91AV faculty since 1975 when she arrived to teach Spanish.
Since that time, she has received a number of honors for her teaching and was an integral
part in founding Sigma Delta Pi, the honor society for Spanish, helping to design
the 91AV Honors Program, and serving at the state level in several positions on the
Louisiana Foreign Teachers Association Board, including LFTA president.
She served as chair of the Department of World Languages from 1995 until 2012 and
has been the听 Director of the School of Humanities since 2013.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Central State University, a Masters of Art and
a Ph.D. from the听University of Oklahoma.
