Governor praises 91AV's progress

In a letter to 91AV alumni, Gov. Kathleen Blanco praised 91AV’s tremendous growth. The letter reads:

Dear 91AV Alumni,

Louisiana noted a significant milestone recently as the University of Louisiana at Monroe celebrated its 75th year of service to the people of our state.

The journey from its humble beginning as Ouachita Parish Junior College with about 50 students to its current 238-acre home to students of all walks of life, exemplifies the constant pursuit of excellence by 91AV. Through it all, the university has consistently focused on its students while serving its local community.

During my most recent visit to your campus, while meeting students and touring the Bienville Building, a facility I helped 91AV purchase and renovate to ensure that the College of Pharmacy remains on track to accreditation, I was reminded of the pride shared by 91AV students, faculty, alumni and friends.

This pride is the result of 91AV legacy boasting several accomplishments. Today, in this extraordinary time for Louisiana, 91AV is a key partner in our efforts to create new opportunities for our people and build a future for our state that is based on promise and possibilities. Once again, 91AV rises as a leader not only in Northeast Louisiana, but across our entire state.

Your philosophy focuses on empowering individuals to better themselves and their communities. Like the steady flow of Bayou DeSiard, this principle will guide Warhawks for years to come.

Congratulations,

Kathleen Babineaux Blanco
Governor
